Happy Birthday Crosby!!!!! Our little pup is 2 years old! The terrible twos or the teenage years (in dog years) are upon us. I can't believe how much joy she has brought to our lives and how our lives have been forever changed by having her apart of it. She got some Filet Mignon treats to start off the day in her gift bag.
We watched Angels and Demons last night and it was awesome...so reminiscent of Italy. We watched the ball drop and finished watching A&D. We cleaned up and finally made it to bed closer to 2am.
B was up at 6:30 this morning and again at 9:30....followed by a HUGE poop that overflowed her diaper...so much so that I had to change her clothes, the changing pad and just put her in the tub. We then relaxed for the morning and got the pork and sauerkraut going.
I straightened up around the house and just spent time playing with B. I LOVE seeing her big gummy grin. I put her in the Bumbo while I washed bottles and we just talked back and forth (me in English and she in baby coos).
We cozied up downstairs in the theater room to watch Boston and Philly duke it out in the Winter Classic. Mom and dad came down around 6:30 or so and we watched Angels and Demons with the leftovers from our antipasto plate and their NYE snack leftovers.
We also sang Happy Birthday to Crosby while she ate her Carrot Cake Birthday Muffin (though no candles since a little someone doesn't quite get that concept).
I had a few Peach Bellinis (love this drink...maybe I'll try subbing a different Schnapps to give a different flavor to the champagne). By the time the movie is over, we probably won't be in bed until close to 1am.
Anyway, it was a perfect start to 2010.

Um, yeah...long night for our FOUR WEEK OLD
So, we put B down to sleep at 11 last night and from midnight to 2, it was definitely a trying time. She was up every 10 minutes...she nursed from both breasts, had about 2 ounces from a bottle, was burped, changed, cleaned, rocked, bounced, swaddled, shushed, etc and yet still continued to scream despite my best attempts. Then, I think she finally fell asleep after I fed her again (she had to have had 6-8+ ounces over the multiple feedings). She was up again at 4 for a quick nurse and then up at 6:30 for another feeding. I brought her into bed with us on the Boppy Lounger where we both woke up at 9:30. My Facebook quote this morning was "Some kid out there who wanted a little sister for Christmas almost got their wish when I was ready to put her in a box and ship her to the North Pole at 2 am after two hours of B's desire to cry and not sleep." That about summarized how I felt this morning!
I was exhausted so I didn't get very far off the couch after nursing. I took a nap from 11:30 to 12:30 and B had a bottle for that feeding. Andrea left during this time...it was nice that she spent yesterday cleaning...actually quite nice b/c it's one less thing to worry about with the needs of a demanding four week old. Did I just say that? FOUR WEEKS! Oh my, what a pleasure it has been.
I finally made it to the shower at 2 and headed to our Homeowner's Association Board Meeting at 2:30 with B. I did catch Oprah at 4 and watched her bid her farewell when she ends her show in 2011. B napped on my chest and I just watched her for what seemed like an hour...I watched her different facial expressions while she slept...she smiles, curls her lip, frowns, furrows her brow, moves her eyes, winks, etc all while sleeping and it's just precious. We all have come so far in the past 28 days, 4 weeks. 4 weeks ago, we had this tiny little fragile being and now we have this still tiny, not quite as fragile baby that has more of a personality. Her eyes will focus on us and she stares intently while studying our faces. Every once in a while, we get a smile when we smile and always, you'll get a yawn from us when she yawns. She's just so precious and we are so fortunate, blessed and happy to have her in our lives!
Erik learned an invaluable lesson today about burp cloths and their purpose as he had a significant amount of spitup on his shirt and B, being the multi-talented infant that she is, was able to burp, spit up, hiccup and poop at the same time. Unfortunately, given Erik's position and B's already full diaper, we had some leakage which was also quite evident on his shirt....he looked like the classic dad and would not let me take a picture!
Tonight, I must share two Crosby stories (no, she's not the red-headed stepchild...she still sleeps with us and gets her fair share of cuddling...she just is over this whole B crying thing so just stays asleep whenever she fusses). The past few days, B's spitup has been more frequent and with increased quantities...Crosby takes it upon herself to clean up our burp cloths by licking up her spitup. I think she might gain a few pounds this year from all of her extra snacking. Then, Erik was doing some work tonight and I hadn't seen Crosby for about an hour...I go upstairs to change into PJs and I see a lump in the bed...yep, sure enough Crosby put herself to bed underneath the covers...oh, she never ceases to make us smile.
I'll close B's FOUR WEEK (can I say that enough!?!?) post by saying how much more I love Erik every time I look at B and see him in her and every time I see Erik holding her, I fall in love with him all over again!

What a Busy Weekend!!!
We had such a busy and productive weekend around here!
First off, I wanted to mention that Andrea was here on Tuesday and Wednesday giving the house a deep fall cleaning in prep for Brooklyn's arrival. We were very thankful to not have to worry about scrubbing tubs/toilets, dusting, vacuuming, windexing or the multitude of other things she did that we weren't able to fit in in these last few weeks.
Friday night, I had a few friends over for a party...it was nice to have a chance to catch up (and meet for the first time in person for one of the ladies) with some old friends. It just reminded me that we don't get together nearly as often as I'd like. Unfortunately, work commitments or family commitments kept some of our usual crew from getting together
So with 13 girls at the house so with that much estrogen upstairs, Erik and Crosby retreated to the basement where Erik was happy to explore his new TV and surround sound system. Around 10:30, my mom and dad arrived and then around 11pm, most of the girls had left so Erik, Crosby and I spent some time relaxing with mom and dad in the basement.
Saturday, we hit the 38 week mark...scary to think that literally ANY DAY she could arrive and our lives, as we know them, will be totally and forever changed. Dad and Erik got up at the crack of dawn to go bow hunting while mom and I slept in, made our venture to our Starbucks for the usual (mom: white chocolate macchiato, me: caramel apple spice) then off to Target for some baby purchases, Costco for our traditional Saturday stock up and sampling fest (oh, how I love that place), Michaels for some fall home decor, Bed Bath and Beyond for the heck of it, Babies R Us for some last minute baby items then Joann's where I signed up for Wilton Level II Cake Decorating for December (it'll give me something to look forward to during maternity leave....and a few hours out of the house as I'm sure I'll be in cabin fever by then). On the way home, we picked up a DiBella's Godfather sub...so so good!
The boys had just arrived home from their Costco and Best Buy venture where dad picked out their new plasma TV. We spent the afternoon outside where dad and Erik did some pruning of the bushes and plucking of weeds, mom decorated the porch and front of the house, and I, in my sad looking 9-month pregnant state, weeded my mulch because, well, I wanted to.
We then had a late dinner at the house....salad (awesome deal at Giant Eagle) with homemade Luigi's recipe vinaigrette, shrimp scampi and spinach/mozzarella ravioli followed by tiramisu (my birthday request) for dessert. We would have gone to Springfield but it was Mars Homecoming dance so the place was full of teeny boppers. Dinner finished up late and we just relaxed the rest of the evening.
Today, we started off with my birthday Champagne brunch at Springfield where the boys had Eggs Benedict and the girls had Sunday Quiche. I subbed my fruit for their Cream of Mushroom soup and my Sunday Quiche with cottage potatoes was, yet again, a delicious choice. Since it was my birthday and I had my free dessert email coupon, I ordered the Pumpkin Pie Spice Creme Brulee which mom happily shared with me. Then it was off to Best Buy to see said-TV that mom and dad are getting and Costco where they stocked up for their trip home.
We watched the Steeler game then Erik and I then headed to Glade Pike where we took some maternity pictures against the scenic fall backgrounds and then picnicked with Crosby by the lake. God how I love our Nikon D60...as Erik said, "this camera makes my pictures look good!" We can't wait to test out our photography capabilities with Brooklyn.
While we were there, Crosby took her customary swim in the lake which then warranted a bath when she got home. Erik then headed into NC as he's in Johnstown Monday and Tuesday.
Tonight, though, I admit that I was a horrible puppy mommy...Erik had just left and Crosby was doing her usual whining. I had to go downstairs to take some photos of some items that we are selling on Craigslist. I still thought Crosby was upstairs by the door so when I came up from the basement, I went to upload my pictures. About 45 minutes later, I was searching the house for Crosby...not in any of her usual sleeping places and then I heard this little whine by the basement door and low and behold, I had locked her in the basement in the dark! The little sneakazoid must have snuck down there while I was in the back part in our storage room taking pictures. The look on her face with her downturned ears and sad expression just made me want to cry...she was like "I have no idea what I did to deserve this but I beg of your mercy." She was afraid that she had done something wrong and I spent the next 5 minutes whipping out every treat I could find trying to tell her that she was a good girl. It didn't take her long to forget and then she was back into her usual spot on the couch...asleep, of course!
Look for the first installment of Mi Casa Mondays where I'll feature a room in our house...tomorrow: the nursery!
